Having recently enquired from eir on the current state of broadband for North Kildare, I have been informed that the number of premises in each area which currently have access to 100Mb/s fibre broadband are as follows:
Naas: 11,660
Johnstown: 210
Kill: 1,350
Straffan: 340 (access to 70Mb/s)
Clane: 2920
Prosperous: 1,060
Donadea: 70 (access to 70Mb/s)
Kilcock: 2,160
Maynooth: 4,440
Maynooth Business Campus: 530
Leixlip: 6,030 (FFTH planned speeds of up to 1,000Mb/s)
Celbridge: 6,880
Rathmore: First live service planned for early/mid 2016
Ardclough: Included in fibre roll out, design work underway
I am very aware that there are certain areas, particularly rural, which are still without broadband access and to this end I have been assured that:
- A significant new investment in direct FTTH (Fibre to the Home) will deliver high-speed broadband to an additional 300,000 premises nationally between 2016 and 202.
- Aside from this coverage by eir, we expect that the general rural areas in Kildare, will be included in the Government’s National Broadband Plan intervention map and subsequent tender which we expect will issue in 2016.
- It is a Government commitment to subsidise the rollout of high speed broadband to all areas of the country that will not be served by eir and other private operators.
The following is a map which details the current and planned upgrades to the cabinet throughout the country (click on for larger view).
