New Naas Community School to relieve pressure on overcrowding

11th December 2013

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, was delighted to learn today (Wednesday) that the Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board has received approval from the Department of Education to bring forward the startup date to September 2014 for the new second level school in Naas. The Department made this decision as a result of demand for second level places in Naas.

“This development will be widely welcomed as it will alleviate the current overcrowding in second level schools in the area. This new co educational, multi-denominational school will be temporarily located in Craddockstown, Naas and building is set to commence shortly under the Rapid build programme. It is envisaged that the permanent school will be located in the Millennium Park, Naas, and the KWETB are currently acquiring a site.

“This is a good news story for Naas as it will, not only help students and teachers, but will also create jobs both in the short and long term, both in terms of building and teaching positions. The KWETB will advertise for a new principal for the school this week and parents can enrol their children for September 2014 from Monday 15th December through the following methods:

• Online by using the link on our website www.kwetb.ie

• In person by attending at our offices at Floor 5, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas.

• By phoning (045) 988000 and requesting an application form.

“This decision highlights the proactive nature of the Department of Education as it is reacting to demand. The Minister has seen a short term solution to a long term problem and is actively dealing with the situation in a positive manner. This is a welcomed development and I will assist in whatever manner is necessary to ensure the school is open for students, on time, in September 2014”.
