Former Garda Station in Kill to house Family Support Network

4th March 2013

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, has welcomed the news that the former Garda Station in Kill is going to continue to serve the local community with the establishment of the South Western Family Support Network.

“The purpose of this Family Support Network will be to develop an information and resource centre for Peer Led Family Support groups. These support groups will allow family members and loved ones of people suffering from alcohol and drugs misuse, to come together and share their experiences and offer support to one another. It will also provide information and education training for, not alone family members, but also the local community.

“I have met with representatives of this Family Support Network and I must commend the work which they intend on rolling out in the Kill community. This new centre will also create jobs locally as it will be the operational base of Family Support Advocates employed under a Community Employment project, undertaking training in community development. There is also the intention to open the centre to the use of residents in the locality as it will operate within a community development ethos and will have meeting facilities for public use, subject to criteria.

“I am delighted to see the old Garda Station once more contributing to the local community in Kill and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all involved in this project the very best in their future endeavours.”
