Lawlor welcomes Summer Works Scheme funding for Kildare Schools

20th March 2013

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor TD, has today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement by Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn TD that seven schools in the constituency have been awarded funding through the first round of Summer Works Scheme 2014 which will allow Kildare schools to carry out small and medium scale building works across electrical and mechanical projects.

“I was delighted to learn that over 3,200 pupils in Scoil Naomh Mhuire in Donadea, Scoil Chorbain in Naas, Scoil Naisuinta Cloch Rince, Straffan NS, Scoil Ui Dhalaigh in Leixlip, Scoil Dara in Kilcock and the Convent of Mercy in Naas will benefit from this year’s funding. These works will be carried out in schools over the summer months, when the pupils are on holidays, so the disruption to schooling will be kept to a minimum

“In total the Department of Education and Skills has awarded €36 million for 386 school projects throughout the country. These projects will stimulate economic activity by supporting 2,160 direct and 430 indirect construction jobs in the local economy. The Department is currently going through further applications and hope to be in a position to announce a second round of funding in the coming weeks. Schools can access further details and instructions on how to proceed on-line using the Esinet Portal.”
