Intel Investment huge boost for Kildare North

27th March 2014

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, was delighted to learn today (Thursday) that $5 billion has been invested by Intel in their Leixlip plant, with the creation of 5,000 construction jobs. The company, which employs over 4,000 people, is worth €900 million per annum to the national economy. This is the single largest private investment in the history of the Irish state and the fact that it is being made in Leixlip is a considerable confidence boost to the town and the surrounding areas.

“This morning I had the pleasure of visiting the Intel site in Leixlip to hear the significant news of this substantial investment in the plant. The next wave of technology in the plant requires this investment and 5,000 workers to undertake the ongoing construction upgrade.

“25 years ago Intel chose Ireland as a vital location for their world wide operations and the company has made a massive contribution to the Irish economy ever since, culminating in today’s historic announcement. One of the major developments of note in recent years has been the transition of the Intel’s operations in Ireland from that of pure manufacturing into the areas of research and development (R&D).These major developments at Intel are significant signs of Ireland’s re-emergence from a financially difficult period and a strong signal in relation to our competitive corporation tax.

“In the last 18 months, two major companies have chosen Kildare North for expansion – firstly Kerry Group in the Naas area and now Intel in Leixlip. The future is bright for Kildare and I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that both companies, and associated businesses, are given every support to continue in such successes”.
