Relief for Kildare Primary Schools with the Restoration of the Minor Works Grant – Deputy Anthony Lawlor
Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Deputy Anthony Lawlor, welcomes the restoration of the Minor Works Grants for primary schools. The fund of €28 million announced by the Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan will be used to carry out essential maintenance, repair work and general upkeep in primary schools.
“I cannot overstate the importance of this grant to primary schools, who rely heavily on it for their funding. Its reinstatement will bring much needed relief to teachers and boards of management in primary schools. It will also bring relief to parents who have undertaken additional fundraising to make up for its absence”.
“I understand the grant of between €6,000 and €12,000 will be issued by the Department next week for any primary schools with permanent recognition. It will fund minor works such as plumbing and electrical work as well as improvements to school buildings and the purchase of furniture as well as PE and IT equipment.”
