18th January 2016

Anthony Lawlor, Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, this morning (Monday) welcomed An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD, An Tanáiste Joan Burton TD and Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation Richard Bruton TD to the launch in Naas of the National Action Plan for Jobs 2016.

Anthony said “It is significant that Naas has been chosen as the launch pad for the National Action Plan for Jobs 2016. Over 2,400 jobs have been created in Kildare through Entreprise Ireland supported companies since 2011. Today’s launch in Kerry Group is a great example of the success achieved here in Kildare, with Naas having been chosen as the Global Centre for Research and Innovation. Over 1,000 jobs have been created to date with considerable benefits for the wider local economy” .

The objective of this Action Plan for Jobs is the creation of 200,000 net additional jobs by 2020, with a target of 50,000 in 2016. This would bring the total numbers of people at work to 2.18million and will be implemented across all Departments and over 60 agencies.
“One aspect of this plan is a step-up in skills supply, including a single Government web portal to highlight job opportunities to returning emigrants and a new National Skills Strategy. As a member of the Oireachtas Jobs Committee, I was instrumental in setting up the new Apprenticeshop programme and am presently in talks to secure Maynooth as the site for the new apprenticeship training centre” Anthony added.
