Anthony Lawlor, Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, confirmed that over €10 million has been allocated towards 64 social housing units for Naas and €9.9 million for road improvement and maintenance works on Kildare roads.
Deputy Lawlor said “The Department of Environment have today confirmed proposals to build 50 social housing units at Rathasker in Naas at an estimated cost of €8.75 million and 14 units at Jigginstown House, Newbridge Road, Naas, at a cost of €1.6 million, under the approved housing body of Homeless Care Ltd.
These housing units will help alleviate the current demand for social housing in Naas. However, I am very aware that this is just a start in addressing the waiting list for social housing and the housing demands in Kildare and will continue to press for further investment and housing reform.”
Lawlor continued “Kildare is also getting a real boost from a significant investment of €9.9 million in our local and regional roads. The announcement of this funding allocation today by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, allows Kildare County Council to plan its work programme for the coming year.”
Projects to receive funding include the Sallins Bypass & Osberstown Interchange, Firmount Cross, the T Junction at Killenlea, Celbridge, Ardrass bends, and the rural crossroads at Mullacash and Drehid.
“I am delighted that the Government are continuing to invest in Kildare. As a Government we are now in a position to enhance our road network and begin to deal with the social housing crisis” concluded Anthony Lawlor TD.
